Create a shortcut to Windows Defender Quick Scan in Windows 10 -

Windows Defender is the integrated security application provided by default with Windows since Windows Vista. Although Microsoft says it only offers basic anti-virus protection, it is best to have pre-installed and running to have no anti-malware at all. If you have Windows Defender is on, you may find it helpful to create a shortcut to start a quick scan.

This trick is to MpCmdRun.exe utility of the console that is part of Windows Defender. used mainly for scanning tasks planned by the directors

The MpCmdRun.exe tool has a number of command line switches that can be viewed by running MpCmdRun.exe with "/?". The
"/ Scan ScanType 1" is exactly what we want.

To perform quick scan with Windows Defender in a single click , follow the instructions below.

  1. right click on the desktop and select New - Shortcut . Windows 10 new - shortcut
  2. In the Target box of the shortcut, type or paste the following command:
     "C:  Program Files  Windows Defender  MpCmdRun.exe" / Scan ScanType 1

    Alternatively you can use the following command:

     "C:  Program Files  Windows Defender  MSASCui.exe" -QuickScan

    Finally, the following command will minimize the window of the graphical interface to the system tray :.

     "C:  Program Files  Windows Defender  MSASCui.exe" -QuickScan -hide 
  3. Enter a useful name for your new shortcut. Defender Quick Scan Shortcut Name
  4. For the shortcut icon, see the following file:
     "C:  Program Files  Windows Defender  MSASCui.exe"
