In earlier versions of Windows, the desktop icons were significant enabled by default - Computer (now known as this PC), Network, My Documents were all visible by default. However, in modern versions of Windows, Microsoft has made most of these hidden icons. In Windows 10, only the Recycle Bin is present on the desktop by default.
