In early versions of Windows, if your hard disk partition was marked dirty due to improper shutdown, or because of corruption or bad sectors, CHKDSK ran while Windows was starting to correct disk errors. You had the choice to cancel the disk check, and continue to start Windows before starting error scanning and fixing. In Windows 10, the CHKDSK timeout is set to 0 by default so that it allows you to cancel the disk check. In addition, the automatic repair mechanism is activated by default we have shown can be disabled. In this article, we will examine how to set the timeout before CHKDSK starts you have time to cancel the disk check.
To change the CHKDSK time with Windows 10 startup , you must apply a simple registry tweak. Follow the instructions below to change

- Go to the following key:

- In the right pane of the Registry Editor, create or modify a DWORD value named AutoChkTimeOut . Even if you use 64-bit Windows, you still need to create a 32-bit DWORD value. Its value data means that the waiting time in seconds, which must be specified in decimal.
Set to 10 seconds, set the AutoChkTimeOut value to 10 decimal, as shown in the picture above. So you'll have 10 seconds before CHKDSK will begin to check your hard disk during startup of the operating system
